The former UK leader, kicked off the inaugural episode of her YouTube show with a pledge to unmask "malicious actors" working to bring down Britain, the US and Europe. She explained she would uncover how an "worldwide alliance of leftists work to undermine popular rule and the public's choice."

"Our focus will be on the Maga phenomenon and see how this can be achieved in Britain," she said. "We'll be talking to the prominent voices of the Make America Great Again campaign."

Before the program's debut, there was a notably ardent backer. "This is the beginning of a sort of revolution," stated the controversial US journalist. The right-leaning media outlet Just the News will publish the former prime minister's new broadcasts.

Building Connections in the Maga Media Ecosystem

UK-based allies, featuring a pro-Reform adviser, played a role in her launch the Liz Truss Show. Its staging is competent, if somewhat rudimentary. The show has attracted ten thousand followers in her debut week and her debut had 67,000 views across the same period.

This represents a modest start, but in aligning with John Solomon, the former PM is being thrust into a mature conservative ecosystem producing and amplifying Make America Great Again themes. Central preoccupations include claims of media suppression by the traditional news outlets and a desire to remove a so-called administrative state – which the ex-PM holds responsible for the abrupt termination of her calamitous premiership.

"The platform is not famous outside of the Maga-verse, but it does have influence there, primarily thanks to Solomon, who provides analysis on conservative outlets like Bannon's 'War Room' podcast and has even questioned Trump," noted an anthropology expert, who has extensively researched the Make America Great Again phenomenon.

A Contentious Ally

Truss's attempt to bring the pro-Trump media model to Britain has drawn her nearer to divisive personalities such as the journalist.

He founded his media outlet after backlash after he was accused of circulating false stories about Biden's anti-corruption work in Ukraine, as well as controversial stories about the former US ambassador to the region.

His claims were echoed within the pro-Trump media, with he featuring as a frequent visitor on the prominent Fox News show. Trump himself promoted the journalist's work.

Solomon made the allegations regarding Ukraine in a set of articles for the political newspaper the Hill, after having been re-labelled as a columnist following internal criticism about his work. These reports were key in the then-president's request for the Ukrainians to look into Hunter Biden and his father in 2019. These actions resulted in impeachment proceedings against Trump. The US Senate later voted to acquit the president.

Shortly after Solomon left the newspaper in late 2019, the publication stated it was conducting a review of his reporting concerning Ukraine. It concluded he had used questionable informants and stated he "omitted important details about key Ukrainian sources, specifically the fact that they had been charged or were under investigation."

Joining the Network

The journalist's personal media appearances are a sign of the conservative ecosystem Truss is becoming part of. Solomon mentioned his backing of Truss's project on a broadcast he helps run on the right-wing channel, a conservative television outlet that is where you find the Maga influencer former adviser Steve Bannon and on which former Fox host Tucker Carlson also appears. She has already hosted Bannon on a debut installment.

In linking up with the journalist and his outlet, Truss has become a niche participant in a much wider network of pro-Trump platforms that often cross-promote stories.

His personal programs have frequently included personalities such as influencer Mike Benz, a conservative commentator whose disparagement of USAID was used by Elon Musk as reasoning behind closing the international development organization.

A Cross-Border Foray

While her awkward delivery and professional woes have been mocked at home, some US observers are not discounting her efforts to revamp her image as a local version of the Maga media.

"It is necessary to treat people like Truss with seriousness, even if you may not want to accept their words at face value," commented Rob Flaherty, who served in the Obama White House.

"You saw how in the recent campaign Donald Trump utilized that media network to disseminate his views. Without a doubt that ecosystem transmits and affects discourse overseas. It appears fairly obvious to me that the circumstances in the United Kingdom are comparable to what allowed this non-mainstream media network to thrive in America."

Professor Alan Finlayson, said the internet-based conservative network was already making its presence felt in Britain.

"Digital media transcends national boundaries," he stated. "There exists a sort of milieu within which ideas travel – at times taking an extreme form and sometimes less so – but which is connected."

Hinton said the growth of the internet-based right wing in the UK recently meant the "chance to have a larger effect is significant."
